There's
more to life
with RadioFreshing KODL AM 1440

KODL began serving
The Dalles on Oct. 19th, 1940, when we became Oregon's 19th radio
station.
KODL was immensely popular right from the start, but was ordered off
the
air in 1941 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. All West Coast radio
stations were silent for a short while as it was feared that the
Japanese
attack planes would use the signals to hone in on targets.
KODL was allowed
to resume broadcasting on a limited basis from sunrise to sunset, but
could
not sign on in the mornings until patrols of American fighters swept
for
enemy fleets off the west coast. After the battle of Midway, stations
were
allowed to resume normal operations. |
At the time, KODL
featured
live and recorded popular music of the time, hosting a number of local
talents, including Doc Severenson when he made his debut in 1946.
Through
out the years, KODL has kept up with the times by continuing to bring
popular
music and radio programs to the Mid-Columbia.
In 1999,
KODL Radio moved
from it's historic location (pictured through out this page) to it's
new
studio and offices located Downtown The Dalles. |

Shortly
after the move,
and after 18 years as a country station, KODL returned to it's musical
roots and once again features Adult
Standards, filling the gap between Soft AC and the Big Band
format.
Artists like Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, The Carpenters and Neil
Diamond
plus today's softer artists such as Rod Stewart and Tony Danza,
reaching
the largest segment of America. Top-notch personalities add humor and
music
information.
KODL has
kept The Mid-Columbia
in touch with the world and the community with National, regional, and
local news, weather, and Informative talk shows. |
